John Boehner Blames Generals for Mess In Iraq

Iraq is a mess because Sec. of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has berated, insulted, and questioned the knowledge and experience of the generals. Rumsfeld tried to wage war on the cheap at the beginning of the Iraq War by not providing adequate body and vehicle armor for our troops. He has continued to overstep the generals in the conduct of the war. There was no plan on how to leave Iraq because Rumsfeld would not take the advice of the generals.

However, Republican Rep. John Boehner, best friend of the tobacco lobby and sun-tanned golfer, said the following on CNN today (Raw Story):

On today's edition of CNN's The Situation Room, Boehner and host Wolf Blitzer had the following exchange:

Boehner: ...[L]et's not blame what's happening in Iraq on Rumsfeld.

Blitzer: But he's in charge of the military.

Boehner: But the fact is the generals on the ground are in charge and he works closely with them and the president.
