Police Dog Recovering

On August 23rd, Officer Mike Schiele, of the Zanesville Police Department, and his police dog, Bosco, were shot. Officer Schiele is recovering. Bosco continues therapy at the OSU Vet Hospital.

Dispatch:

...Speaking yesterday after dropping off Bosco for therapy, Zanesville Police Officer Mike Schiele again credited the dog with saving his life on the night of the shooting. Schiele was shot once in the leg.

He said Bosco no longer will work on the street, but the department is keeping him to make public appearances and raise awareness of the city's canine program. Schiele said a recent donation of almost $10,000 from Value City Furniture will pay for Bosco's replacement, a German shepherd named Tino.

Schiele said that is only one example of the outpouring of public support the unit received after the shooting. He said the department collected more than $22,000 in donations within a couple weeks of the incident....
