Would you like some algae and toxins with that swim?

What is ahead for Ohio's citizens?

Gov. John Kasich wants to sell the Ohio Turnpike as soon as possible.  The price Kasich expects might not necessarily pan out because of problems in Indiana.

Forbes:

Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels said Wednesday that foreign investors "overpaid" in their $3.8 billion lease of the Indiana Toll Road five years ago.

The Spanish-Australian investor group Cintra-Macquarie is in danger of defaulting on loans it used in the 2006 deal, according to the Financial Times. The newspaper said the group was close to depleting a $150 million reserve fund required to keep its $4.1 billion loan in good standing. The investment group has suffered from a lagging economy and drop in expected toll collections.....

Just because Indiana got $3.8 billion does not mean Ohio will get the same price or more.  The one problem that drivers have faced on the Indiana Turnpike is higher tolls.

****  It may not be safe to wade into, swim, boat, or walk near certain lakes in Ohio that have algae problems.  However, Ohio's agencies that set limits about safe levels of poisons in the water have been arguing about if the lakes are safe.

Dispatch:

The state's new plan to protect people from toxic algae in Ohio lakes was held up for weeks as the leaders of three state agencies fought about how much protection was necessary. The dispute - public safety vs. economics - pitted the directors of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Natural Resources against the Ohio Department of Health.....

....Nally and Ohio Department of Natural Resources Director David Mustine said they didn't want a warning system that would unnecessarily keep people from visiting public lakes and nearby businesses.....

"Apparently, Director Nally wants to raise the level to 20 (parts per billion) against the advice of his staff and the draft policy recommendation," wrote William McHugh, acting chief of the Department of Health's division of prevention, in a May 19 email to Wymyslo.....

Nally and Mustine are more interested in money than public safety.  Would they let their family members swim in the algae covered lakes?
