The Decider

Did you happen to hear or read what President Bush said yesterday at a news conference? Here is an excerpt, as quoted by ABC News: "I hear the voices and I read the front page and I know the speculation," the president said testily. "But I'm the decider and I decide what's best. And what's best is for Don Rumsfeld to remain as the secretary of defense."

We need to take that quote apart. He is hearing voices? What voices? What are they telling him? He only reads the front page of newspapers or other printed material???? 'Decider?' Have you ever heard any adult use that word? Can you believe this man is the President of the United States?

Teachers! Looking for a job? New York is offering some big incentives to bring teachers to the Big Apple. The New York Times has the whole story:
New York City will offer housing subsidies of up to $14,600 to entice new math, science and special education teachers to work in the city's most challenging schools, in one of the most aggressive housing incentive programs in the nation to address a chronic shortage of qualified educators in these specialties.

To be eligible for the subsidies, teachers must have at least two years' experience. City officials said they hoped the program, to be announced by the city Education Department today, would immediately lead to the hiring of an extra 100 teachers for September and, with other recruitment efforts, ultimately help fill as many as 600 positions now held by teachers without the proper credentials....
