Obama

> What a difference an election makes! I watched President Obama's press conference last night and I was so impressed with his detailed, thoughtful. and intelligent responses to the questions. It was such a contrast from the previous resident of the White House.

One correspondent asked if the President was overstating the economic conditions in the country by saying that things were in "dire" shape. (You almost wonder if the reporter has been living under a rock. Don't these people see what is going on here?) The President explained that 3.6 million people lost their jobs in 2008 and things could get worse unless that stimulus package gets passed. I think that he meant that instead of a recession, we could get an economic depression.

> Late yesterday afternoon, the U.S. Senate voted for cloture on the economic on the recovery bill (the stimulus package).

The following list of U.S. Senators voted against cloture (to end debate) and set up a vote:

Did you notice that they are all Republicans? Sen. Gregg did not vote because he is under consideration for the President's Cabinet. However, Sen. Cornyn was in New York. (source). How nice. While the country goes down the tubes, Cornyn had other things to do.
