On tonight's Nightly News with Brian Williams, there was a story about Sen. Hillary Clinton's surprise win in the New Hampshire primary. Give me a break! The only people who were surprised were the political experts who had the presidential race all finished. I watched MSNBC last night (never Fox or CNN) and Chris Matthews and his blabbering just got too much to take. (Matthews never stops bashing the Clintons.)
Do you want to know why Hillary Clinton won? Interview women voters. For far too long, women have been told that they can do this, but not that. Women have worked long and hard to achieve success in every field. Now, Chris Matthews and other male reporters are telling us that women cannot/should not be president.
Senator Clinton and former President Bill Clinton have had every inch of their lives examined by the likes of Ken Starr and every right wing Republican. Hillary Clinton has had to deal with the loss of privacy, her husband's indiscretion, the White Water investigation, attacks by Rush Limbaugh, the investigation of her law practice, the impeachment of her husband, etc., etc., etc. It is time to move on and talk about the future, not the past.
If reporters and pundits really want to do their jobs, they should start asking candidates important questions about the following:
> How will he/she save social security?
> What will he/she do to end the war in Iraq?
> What steps will he/she take to rebuild relationships with other countries around the world?
> What programs will he/she institute to get America working?
> How can we insure a safe and clean environment for our children?
It is time for women to think seriously about electing a woman as President. If not now, when?
