Republican Elitists

What is an elitist?
I have heard some Republicans call liberals elitists. They are incorrectly using the word.

*People like the Bush family could be called elitists (they go to private schools/ivy league schools because their fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers went there). They have money, come from money, and have always had money.

*Someone like Republican Senator Bill Frist could be called an elitist. He owns a $7 million dollar home in Washington, DC and a mansion in Nashville, Tennessee. He has his stocks in a trust (and may have illegally sold those stocks which is why he is under investigation by the SEC).

*Republican Senator Trent Lott could be called an elitist. Lott complained when an ethics proposal sought to limit to $20 the amount of money a lobbyist could pay for lunch. Lott was worried that he might have to pay for his own lunch or go home and have lunch with his wife.

*Republican Rep. John Boehner is an elitist. He golfs at private clubs and has one of the best handicaps in golf. Where does he get that tan?

The Republicans are attempting to end free public education by promoting school vouchers. This would rob public schools of tax money.

Answers.com defines elitism as---

  1. The belief that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources.
    1. The sense of entitlement enjoyed by such a group or class.
    2. Control, rule, or domination by such a group or class.
