Chronicle Telegram:
The State Highway Patrol is trying to get more Ohio troopers ready, with staffing already down and retirements looming.
State officials say the force is down about 100 troopers, and 124
more are eligible to retire. One cadet academy is under way, and two
more training sessions are planned. The patrol seeks 180 to 200 people

The training takes nearly seven months. About one-fourth of the
candidates usually drop out. The patrol offers starting salaries of
$50,000 a year. Applicants must be Ohio residents and U.S. citizens ages
