The Politics of Fear

* The executives at Wal-Mart are worried (Reuters):
Wal-Mart Stores Inc (WMT.N) is mobilizing U.S. store managers to lobby against Democrats in November's presidential election, fearing they will make it easier for workers to unionize, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

In recent weeks, thousands of Wal-Mart managers and department heads have been summoned to mandatory meetings at which the retailer stresses the downside for workers if store workers unionize, the paper said....

If Wal-Mart has fair labor practices (see Star Tribune), they have nothing to fear. If I were a Wal-Mart employee (I'm not), I'd make sure that I voted for Barack Obama. With a Democrat in the White House, the workers across the nation would have better chance of having improved safety in the workplace, fair labor practices (lunch breaks), civil rights, and proper pay (payment for overtime). If you are a Wal-Mart employee or know someone who is, tell them if they want to improve their lives, they'll vote Democratic.
