Do members of the GOP get their talking points faxed to them everyday? Bob Ney (OH-18:R) follows the party line: http://www.daily-jeff.com/article.php?pathToFile=archive/09162005/news/&file=neycombathighgasprices.txt&article=1&tD=09162005
"Not a single new refinery has been built in this country in 25 years and those refineries still in operation are forced to create different types of gasoline for different parts of the country as a result of insane environmental regulations supported by the (Clinton) Administration. Now, as if the situation could not get any worse, Katrina's devastation has wrought havoc on our nation's Gulf Coast energy infrastructure. Forty percent of our nation's refining capacity is located in the area affected by Katrina, and many facilities have been forced to shut down due to the storm," Ney said.
"Today, I am calling on my colleagues in the Congress to join me in supporting new legislation that will take immediate steps to build new refineries, eliminate burdensome boutique fuels, and create a needed federal law against price gouging. These are needed, common-sense pieces of legislation that I will be pushing for in the days ahead," Ney concluded.
This Ney is amazing. Does he understand why gasoline must be different for various parts of the country? Would it be okay to use the same gasoline products in California and North Dakota? No. Location, climate, the population size, and other factors must be considered when creating the different grades/types of gasoline. Furthermore, Bush has been president for the last 5 years and he should be responsible for a majority of the leadership on this issue.
