Debt Disaster Editorial

There was an interesting editorial published in the News-Sentinel of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Here are a few selected paragraphs.
http://www.fortwayne.com/mld/newssentinel/news/editorial/12716405.htm

'The natural disaster on the Gulf Coast may soon be followed by a man-made disaster in Washington, if President Bush and Congress don't agree on a plan to cut federal spending to offset the massive cost of reconstructing the devastated area.

'Congress is poised to add at least $150 billion to the federal deficit to pay for the reconstruction program. This would irresponsibly impose another financial obligation on future generations already facing huge costs for rescuing federal entitlements such as Social Security.........

'Sadly for future generations, Washington's bills eventually will have to be paid. The national debt now stands at $8 trillion. If the deficit continues to soar, interest rates will rise and inflation will return. Future members of Congress will find themselves faced with a choice of raising taxes through the roof or cutting spending to the bone.

'If Republican advocates of limited government and fiscal responsibility won't act on their principles, the American people may decide they'd rather pay high taxes to the Democrats than let the GOP mortgage their children's future.'

The national debt is really a disgrace. I am not sure if the GOP just can't deal with reality or if they just don't care what they do. They are running this country into the ground and they will not take responsibility for their actions.
