Investigate?

The president and the GOP leadership plan to investigate themselves concerning their responses to Hurricane Katrina. How does one investigate oneself? Do you ask yourself questions and then answer them? Do you look over your schedule to see what you did? Do you gather witnesses who are political appointees and ask for their opinions? Do you gather your friends and campaign contributors to ask them to be cheerleaders for your actions? None of these things would work, and neither will the GOP self-investigation. Only an independent investigation will find the real truth about why FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security did not respond in a timely manner to the largest natural disaster in our country's history.
