The Failure of the GOP

The GOP controls the Executive Branch, the Legislative Branch, and the Judicial Branch. You'd think that with all this control things would run smoothly. WRONG! Hurricane Katrina changed everything and revealed our worst fears.

Bush did not respond in a timely manner. Homeland Security and FEMA were worthless. God forbid if it had been worse, what would have happened? The Legislative Branch was slow to respond to passing aid packages until citizens started demanding they return for a special session. The Judiciary is controlled by the president and he has the power to appoint. As we remember, the judiciary also assumed the power to appoint their choice as president, George W. Bush.

Now some members of the GOP are upset that people are making uncomplimentary remarks about President Bush. Obviously, these GOPers do not remember the name-calling they engaged in during the Clinton administration.

***While watching the unfolding of the events following Hurricane Katrina, I thought of a book that I had read several years ago. The book, Alas Babylon, written by Pat Frank in 1959, is the story of how a small community survives a nuclear war. The story in the book and the aftermath of Katrina have many similarities. Visit your library for a copy. It is a fascinating read, considering what we've witnessed in the last two weeks.
