Shame on FEMA for their incompetence. Shame on this administration and their slow response to this tragedy before and after the storm hit. They knew that the poor of New Orleans were especially vulnerable and they did NOTHING to help. Instead of making an effort before the storm to get transportation to get these people out of town, FEMA sat and waited. What is the purpose of Homeland Security if it cannot protect the citizens of this country?
What should be done first? (1) Fire the FEMA director and assistant director. Instead bring in people with experience and credibility to direct this monumental rescue, recovery, and re-building. (2) Contribute to the American Red Cross (and NOT Pat Robertson's Operation Blessing). (3) Call, write, and e-mail public officials and newspapers and demand that they a) take care of the Americans who need our help, and b) fix the gulf coast problems with effective protection from disasters, no matter what the cost. We should accept nothing less.
